How Do We Decide What To Post?

Our Instagram page has over 3,500 posts on it. According to some who follow the page, that means that at least 3,000 of them are Pearl Jam posts… Anyways, those posts haven’t populated the page by themselves! Something people always want to know is how we decide what to post. With hundreds and hundreds of bands and thousands of songs to pick from, we’ve got our fair share of options.

There really isn’t any rhyme or reason to what we post. There are no ALGORITHMS or TACTICAL METHODS to it. There are a few categories that house most, if not all, of the ‘reasons’ we post something. Here they are.

  1. Dates and Anniversaries

We try not to miss an anniversary of an album or birth date, death date, or anything that can be commemorated. Our followers are very helpful in making sure we don’t miss anything important :) although, sometimes we still do, and we are sorry!

  2. Whatever I’m Listening To

When it comes time to post, I get the most enjoyment out of sharing with you all what I have been inspired by lately, because chances are that is what I am most excited to talk about. There have definitely been times where I have incessantly posted from a particular artist, or album...because that is what had been in my heavy rotation at the time. How do I decide what to listen to? Well, exactly how anyone does - the next two categories on the list!

  3. Mood

I have had friends in my personal life (more than once) come up to me and say something like, “Wow Chris, I can really tell what mood you’re in based off of what you post on Grunge Bible.” This is often true. It’s hard to post sad music when you’re happy, and it’s hard to post happy music when you’re sad! So bear with me sometimes if you feel like we’re hitting too heavily on one side for too long, it’ll come around eventually :)

  4. Suggestions

It is common for me to look at our direct messages and read post requests, and sometimes I’ll throw one up! I enjoy hearing what you all are listening to, and end up posting some of what’s in your heavy rotation from time to time!

There is probably a more efficient way to post than how we currently post, but who cares. I have fun doing it, and selfishly, I don’t want to change something I am having fun doing!
